Green Mountain Coffee K-Cup Packs

Hot Vs. Iced Beverages

Now that it’s officially Spring, we must ask the question: do you switch from hot to iced?

Early in the morning, it’s hard enough to choose from all of our varieties we have to offer on greenmountaincoffee.com, but now that it’s getting warmer out, the bigger question is: to ice or not to ice?

Personally, I love a refreshing large glass of Green Mountain Coffee® Nantucket Blend® Iced Coffee K-Cup® Pack or French Vanilla Iced Coffee Vue® pack. The sweetness of the coffee, the coolness of the ice: what’s not to love? I feel completely awake and ready to go after one of those beverages!

What’s even better is that we can really brew any of our favorite K-Cup® or Vue® packs over ice. Just fill a glass to the top with ice, brew your favorite Keurig Brewed® beverage on your smallest cup size setting, add a little more ice or cream at the end and Voilà!

Don't get me wrong. There are definitely days when I just need my Celestial Seasonings® Decaf Green Tea or am craving a nice hot mug of Café Escapes® Café Mocha, to handle my chocolate fixation. But, for the most part, when spring and summer are just around the corner, so is my urge to lower that cup size setting and brew myself a tall glass of any Brewed® beverage, over ice!

Do you have any favorites that you love to 'ice'?

Maximum Brewing Action Satisfaction

So, maybe you got a new Keurig® brewer over the holidays. Or maybe you’ve had a brewer for years. Either way, there’s a lot more than just a simple cup of coffee that you can get out of this terrific little machine. Here’s some inspiration from GreenMountainCoffee.com and Keurig.com to help you think outside the bean.

  1. Explore new varieties of coffee. Sure you have your go-to blend, and no one’s going to take that away from you. But did you know, there are over 150 different K-Cup® and about 50 Vue® pack varieties of coffee out there? From light, medium, and dark roast to extra bold, flavored, or special reserve – you might just discover a new favorite or two.

  2. Try other hot brews. Coffee’s not the only cup in town. The best-loved hot tea brands are also available for your Keurig® brewer, including Bigelow, Celestial Seasonings, Lipton, Tazo, Tetley, and Twinings. And on a chilly day, kids and grown-ups alike love a cup of hot apple cider or hot cocoa.

  3. Enjoy cold beverages with Brew Over Ice packs. With specially-crafted Brew Over Ice K-Cup® and Vue® packs, it’s a cinch to make a fresh and refreshing cup of iced coffee, iced tea, lemonade or other fruit brew. Just fill a cup with ice (do not use glass), pop in a pack, brew, stir and enjoy!

  4. Involve your brewer for cooking and baking. There are lots of great recipes that call for coffee, both sweet and savory dishes. Your Keurig® brewer makes it easy to brew a single cup, fast and without cleanup. This blog has a boatload of delicious recipes, so do a little perusing for some culinary ideas.

  5. Use My K-Cup® for whole bean and ground options. For some, there’s nothing like a cup of coffee from freshly ground beans. The My K-Cup® refill pack allows you to grind your own beans or to try varieties that are only available in bags.

But it’s not just what’s in the cup that matters. Here are a few more tips.

  1. A little maintenance goes a long way. Changing your water filter every 2 months and descaling your brewer every 3-6 months will not only help extend the life of your brewer, it’ll keep your beverages tasting great. Learn more.
  2. Keep your packs in order. There are a few great space-saving options for keeping your packs handy and organized, including carousels, dispensers, and under-brewer drawers. Check out your storage options for both K-Cup® and Vue® packs.
  3. Stock up for guests. When company comes, it’s a real treat to allow everyone to choose his or her own beverage, so keep a stash of options (see #s 1,2, and 3 above) and make it easy for guests to browse packs (see #7 above).
  4. Keep in touch. Sign up at GreenMountainCoffee.com and Keurig.com (bottom left) to receive emails with exclusive discounts and special offers, new product information, and more. We’re also on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+.

Got an idea to make it an even 10? We’d love to hear from you!

Supporting Our Troops and Honoring Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day when Americans pay tribute to those who serve our country.  Here at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (GMCR) we honor our troops and we like to bring them a taste of home by providing coffee donations.  There’s a history of the military and their coffee; this article from The New York Times talks about it being their secret weapon.

Fisher House is an organization that provides comfort homes built on the grounds of major military and veteran medical centers.  These homes enable family members of veterans to be close to their loved ones when the veterans are receiving in-hospital treatment for unexpected illness, disease, or injury.  GMCR provides a monthly coffee donation to over 20 Fisher House locations as well as several veterans hospitals.  Easy access to a good cup of coffee can be a small but meaningful comfort during the healing process.  The video below provides a great summary of Fisher House and their tremendous work.

We also support active duty military personnel through a strategic partnership with an organization called Holy Joe’s Café.   Through this partnership we ship thousands of brewers and millions of K-Cup® packs to over 31 bases in combat zones.  Holy Joe’s Café provides coffee in a café-like setting where the troops can go for support from the Chaplains, listen to music on open mic nights, or just enjoy a great cup of Green Mountain Coffee®.

Our employees in Massachusetts often volunteer with Pease Greeters.  This group greets and thanks troops arriving and departing from Pease International Airport.

We are proud to support our troops and veterans through these channels and believe these relationships help us get our coffee and brewers in the hands of more military personnel, and show our appreciation in the most equitable way possible.

In the words of Chaplin L. Ray, Hospital Corpsman, 3rd Class USN, “I’ve learned it’s the little things that matter most.  It’s that hot mug of coffee, it’s that letter from home, it’s a hug and a shoulder to cry on.  That’s what matters the most.  And it’s so much more than a hot mug of coffee or tea, to me.  It’s my touch of home!”

Thank you to all those that serve, to your families, and to all who support our veterans.

Jamaica Blue Mountain® and 100% Kona: This Season’s Special Reserves

Calling all coffee connoisseurs (and the friends who buy them gifts). We are pleased to announce the arrival of two highly prized Special Reserve coffees from Green Mountain Coffee®: Jamaica Blue Mountain® and 100% Kona. This isn’t something for just the French Press folks, these limited edition coffees are available in K-Cup® packs as well as bags. Both package options come with an informational brochure and are specially designed to make an elegant gift presentation.

Here’s a taste of each unique variety.

Jamaica Blue Mountain® is a coffee that is world-renowned for its exceptional flavor. So much so, that coffee experts ask for it by name. It is a complex coffee that presents a cup of well-rounded contrasts. You’ll find rich notes of chocolate, cherry, and plum, while hints of melon, lemon, and lime also shine through. The body is heavy with a silky, smooth finish.

100% Kona is one of the world’s most prized, award-winning coffees. It is a cheerfully bright, but delicate coffee that expresses dry, Chardonnay-like notes while presenting refreshing hints of tropical fruit, tart green apple, and dried citrus. It’s incomparable aroma is pleasantly floral with an almond sweetness.

These coffees, as with all Green Mountain Coffee® Special Reserves, are nurtured on the small farms we encounter during journeys to familiar origins and emerging coffee regions. They are carefully sourced and expertly roasted to bring out the best in every bean.

They’re also limited in supply, so don’t wait too long to order them!

Salted Caramel Coffee Recipe

There are few things more alluring than the perfect combination of sweet and salty.  A sugar rush with a saltine kick.  Pretzels and chocolate.  Peanuts and marshmallows.  Caramel and sea salt.   Ah, yes, the proverbial salted caramel.  The buttery, sticky confection ripe with scattered bursts of salt crystals.  Of course, the sticky-factor has been known to cause trouble for my pearly whites – hence the idea to incorporate all the flavors of salted caramel into a warm, indulgent coffee drink.  Sip on this beauty – heaped with whipped cream, of course – after a short rib dinner, and just...drift away.

Salted Caramel Coffee

Serves 1

Ingredients

Directions

In large mug, mix cocoa powder and caramel sauce until smooth.  Brew coffee into mug, add milk and stir to combine.  Top with whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, and a pinch of sea salt.  Indulge.

Water: It’s a Matter of Good Taste

Celebrate National Water Quality Month by Treating your Keurig Brewer Right

It’s perhaps less well-known than Black History Month, but a little more relevant to most of us than National Celery Month (which apparently is March). That’s right, August is Water Quality Month!

At Green Mountain Coffee®, we have our own way of celebrating and improving our water through a series of river clean-ups in the communities in which we work. You can learn more about those great efforts here and this entire week!

But we also wanted to take a moment to share some ideas about getting the best out of your own water, specifically as it relates to your Keurig Brewed® beverages.

Did you know that your cup of coffee is over 98% water? So it stands to reason that the better the taste and quality of your water, the better your coffee will be. The same holds true for tea and cocoa (not to mention all those Brew Over Ice beverages like lemonade, iced tea, and fruit brews that are helping you chill out this summer).

When it comes to the water you choose for your brew, we suggest using clean, filtered water such as you would get from a tap or pitcher filter. While some mineral content helps to lend flavor and depth to your brews – for that reason, distilled water is not recommended – you don’t want to have an overabundance of minerals…or the wrong ones.

OK, so you’ve got good tasting (and smelling) water, now you’ll want to make sure the inner-workings of your brewer are clean. Keurig® recommends de-scaling your brewer every 3-6 months depending on the hardness of your water. Don’t know how to de-scale? Here’s a quick video tutorial.

Once you’ve assured good water and a clean machine, the last 2% of getting a great cup is easy: just pick your favorite variety K-Cup® or Vue® pack and let your Keurig® brewer do its thing.

Oh, and if you have a chance to do something to help clean up the waterways in your community or to support water conservation programs here or abroad, think how much more satisfaction you’ll get from that great cup of coffee or tea. Learn more about water quality issues at www.nrdc.org/water.

Caramel Vanilla Cream Coffee Waffle Recipe: Hello, Gorgeous!

Caramel Vanilla Cream Coffee Waffles

Have you ever had dessert waffles? The concept was a surprise to me when I first moved to England. There, waffles aren't a breakfast food at all. They're 100% dessert food!

It didn't take me long to embrace the concept, and I think you should too. Especially when we're talking about waffles made with delicious Green Mountain Coffee® Caramel Vanilla Cream.

Light, sweet, with hints of buttery caramel and smooth vanilla, both the coffee and these waffles are a crowd pleaser. These Caramel Vanilla Cream Coffee Waffles stayed light, even though I used a whole grain baking mix in the recipe. I was pleasantly surprised. You might be looking at me with an eyebrow raised, but who says dessert can't be whole grain too?

Caramel Vanilla Cream Coffee Waffles Image

Fire up your waffle maker, grab some vanilla ice cream and the best maple syrup (Another great Vermont export!) you can get your hands on. You'll have a simple dessert whipped up before your family even knows you left the table.

Caramel Vanilla Cream Coffee Waffles

makes 4 waffles

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bisquick Complete or similar waffle/pancake mix

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 3/4 cup Green Mountain Coffee® Caramel Vanilla Cream

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (roughly, see directions)

  • 2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil

  • Vanilla Ice Cream for topping

  • Maple Syrup, for topping

Directions

  1. Heat waffle iron. While the iron is warming up, mix the batter:
  2. In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine waffle mix, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk together until nutmeg and salt are evenly distributed. Set aside.
  3. In a 2-cup measuring cup, brew one 6 oz. (3/4 cup) Caramel Vanilla Cream Coffee K-Cup® pack.
  4. Add the teaspoon of vanilla extract to the measuring cup, then add heavy cream until the measurement on the cup reaches 1 1/3.
  5. Pour the coffee-cream mixture into the dry ingredients. Add two tablespoons of vegetable oil.
  6. Whisk all ingredients together until you have a thick batter.
  7. Spray waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Pour roughly 1/3 cup of batter into each well of the waffle iron. Allow to cook until golden brown and the waffle comes away cleanly from the iron.
  8. Top with scoops of vanilla ice cream and maple syrup. Serve immediately.

Green Mountain Coffee Is a Little Bit Country in Vegas

Our Google Plus Hangout

In April, the Green Mountain Coffee® brand worked with the Dial Global radio network to sponsor two days of remote radio broadcasts from the MGM Grand - the Las Vegas venue hosting the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards. Nearly 50 radio stations were in attendance, providing Country music royalty like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift and many more, with easy access to eager listeners tuning in from all over the nation.

Besides providing branded reusable shopping bags filled with great Green Mountain Coffee® thermoses and bags of Vermont Country Blend (get it?) for all the artists and VIPs, a Green Mountain Coffee® sampling team was on hand providing everyone with a nice selection of fresh K-Cup® packs from our array of Keurig® Platinum brewers. Event favorites were Dark Magic and Caramel Vanilla Cream.

And as many of us can attest, there’s something about photo booths that always brings out the silliness in people, so besides delicious coffee and fun gifts, we also brought our 9-foot tall coffee cup-shaped photo booth. The “My Coffee Moment” cup looked resplendent inside and out, wrapped with new Brew A Better Day imagery, and staffers and celebrities alike had a blast stepping into the giant cup and leaving with a silly souvenir photo.

As the sponsor representative on site, I was honored (and delighted) to be a part of the interview cycles, and over the course of what felt like a crazy two hours, I did live interviews with over two-dozen national Country stations. I used the opportunity to discuss the great connection between Country music fans and the Green Mountain brand – points of similarity like our devotion to authenticity and the promotion small-scale farmers and sustainable supply chains.

As exciting as the interviews were, a personal highlight of the event was teaming up with my friend Cadillac Jack, a Las Vegas radio personality from KCYE 102.7 FM, to host a live Google+ Hangout on the internet. While Cadillac and I talked about Fair Trade coffee – and music – with three Green Mountain Coffee® super fans, some very special guests like Gary Allen, Billy Currington, Thompson Square, and the aforementioned Ms. Underwood, stopped by our show and chatted with our online guests. These types of things are probably old hat for industry insiders like Cadillac Jack, but it was a real treat for me, and I know our online guests enjoyed it as well. It’s not every day you get to call your kids and say, “You’re never going to believe who I was just talking to!”

**And of course, note that none of the people above are actually endorsing us - they just stopped by for some coffee.

How Will You Handle The Temptation on National Blueberry Muffin Day?

Celebrate National Blueberry Muffine Day with Wild Mountain Blueberry Coffee

Tomorrow is a holiday dedicated to one of my favorite pastries: National Blueberry Muffin Day! The bad news is this holiday falls right in the middle of swimsuit season, where this treat just isn’t on my breakfast list. If you’re in my boat, we have to wonder: how do we avoid the inevitable temptations of tasty baked goods on this unique national holiday? The answer is simple: flavored coffee. Flavored coffees can satisfy your sweet tooth without the calorie worries, and I’m here to reveal some of my favorite flavors.

First, the classics: Hazelnut and French Vanilla are always delicious. These two flavors are simple and satisfying. Hazelnut, a personal favorite of mine from Green Mountain Coffee®, perfectly embodies the toasted, buttery, hazelnut flavors that everybody loves. French Vanilla is lusciously rich and smooth and captures the flavors of old-time creamy vanilla custard. To sweeten the deal, each K-Cup® pack is calorie-free and guilt-free, so these treats won’t interrupt your summer journey to wellness.

If you want to spice it up a little more, why not drink your favorite treat regret-free? Timothy’s® German Chocolate Cake coffee, Donut House® Cinnamon Roll coffee, Timothy’s® Cinnamon Pastry coffee, and  Donut House® Chocolate Glazed Donut coffee are all to die for! You might think you’re biting into a slice of German chocolate cake or a warm cinnamon roll, but really, you’re drinking a calorie-free and oh-so mouthwatering treat.

Finally, the most appropriate way to celebrate National Blueberry Muffin Day and be proud of your will power is to embrace Green Mountain Coffee® Wild Mountain Blueberry® coffee! You might think blueberry coffee sounds crazy, but after you try it, you’ll fall for the juicy, sweet, oh-so-slightly buttery aroma and the sun-kissed wild blueberry with a hint of caramel flavor. What better way to curb your craving for a blueberry muffin than with a hot cup of Wild Mountain Blueberry® coffee in the morning?

Flavored coffees are my hidden secret this summer. The taste of each flavor makes me feel like I’m eating the treat – no more cravings for me. So this summer, try one of these tasty coffee flavors and celebrate National Blueberry Muffin Day the right way. Branch out on this special day and try a wild flavor like Wild Mountain Blueberry® - who knows, it may be a new favorite.

Helping My Mom Chill Out

Amy's Mom Chilling Out

My parents recently bought their first Keurig® brewer as a show of support for when I became a genuine Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. employee. In contrast to their 27-year-old drip maker, the Keurig® brewer was clean, fast, and – most important for my mother who panics when she has to use an ATM – easy to use. She called me the other day to let me know how nice it was that she no longer had to choke down my father’s “Hair on Your Chest” coffee and that she could enjoy what he calls her “Fru-fru Flavored” brews.

In that moment, I decided she was ready for the next level in K-Cup® pack satisfaction.

Me: You know, Mom, you can also make cold drinks from the brewer. Iced tea and lemonade, n’stuff.

Mom: Oh, no, I didn’t realize that. I don’t drink iced tea anymore (Estelle thought it could lead to kidney stones), but lemonade would be nice.

Me: Yeah, it’s actually just the same process as brewing hot drinks.

Mom: I didn’t see a cold button on the machine. Where is that?

Me: There isn’t one. You’re still brewing hot, but you do it over ice in a glass…well, not in a glass. Don’t use glass.

Mom: How come?

Me: Remember that time I tried to cool a pot of hot soup by putting it on the glass shelf in the refrigerator?

Mom: That was a mess.

Me: Yeah. So use a plastic tumbler. Just fill it with ice and brew like you would a regular cup of coffee.

Mom: I could make an iced coffee!

Me: For sure. Except, you’re supposed to use special Brew Over Ice K-Cup® packs. They’re more concentrated so the melting ice doesn’t dilute the flavor too much.

Mom: Wow, Amy, you sure know your stuff. Of all my children, you are clearly the smartest.

OK, I may have embellished that last part, but the soup disaster is totally true. The cool part is that my mom gets to show off to all her friends how Keurig®-savvy she is.

And now, you can, too!

10 Ways to Renew Your Brew

If you’ve got a Keurig® K-Cup® or Vue® brewer, there are lots of options for trying something new to “Renew Your Brew.” Things like flavored coffees – Limited Edition Island Coconut comes to mind – and Brew Over Ice flavors like lemonade, iced coffee, and iced tea. (You did know that every Keurig® brewer can make iced beverages, right?)

The point is, single-serve packs are a really convenient way to enjoy a great cup of coffee any time of day. But being able to use your brewer to make iced coffee, iced tea, lemonade and other fruit drinks is a little like discovering that your washing machine can also fold and do ironing. Sigh…if only.

Coconut Vanilla Cream Coffee Recipe for Mom

Coconut Vanilla Cream Coffee Recipe from Green Mountain Coffee

Breakfast in bed is the quintessential way to kick-off a quality Mother’s Day.  Mom gets to lounge, kids get creative in the kitchen, and dad gets to coordinate to make it all happen (and clean it all up)!  To simplify the process but still give mom that special, “For me?” moment, how about brewing her up a little something sweet and tropical in your Keurig® brewer?

Coconut Vanilla Cream

Ingredients

- Green Mountain Coffee® Island Coconut® K-Cup® pack, Vue® pack, or bagged coffee

- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar

- ½ - 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

- 2 teaspoons of heavy cream or whipped cream

Directions

- Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar into a large mug

- Brew or pour 6-8 ounces of Green Mountain Coffee® Island Coconut® into the mug

- Add ½ - 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract to taste

- Stir

- Pour 2 teaspoons of heavy cream over the backside of a spoon into the mug creating a layered effect or top with whipped cream

Tip from the Brew Team

- Don’t stir again after adding the heavy cream or whipped cream. Sip the coffee through the cream and transport your senses!
