Poached Pears Recipe

When you're living in New England, great fruit is very hard to come by during those winter months. One fruit that always brings a smile to my face and an appetite to my 3 pm snack belly, however, is a Bartlett pear. Pears, so majestic and juicy, really do bring that extra something special and mysterious to the table. They are found donned in nicely wrapped gift baskets and we all love when we spot them in a fruit bowl.

We thought the perfect dessert and anytime snack (er, treat), would be to poach the pear, while adding a fusion of coffee and brown sugar, which makes a nice, yet subtle, syrup. Yum!

So here we are and we hope you enjoy this recipe, too.

Ingredients:

1 Colombian K-Cup® or Vue® pack, brewed at 8-ounce setting

2 cups of water

1/3 cup of brown sugar

4 Pears, peeled, halved, and cored

Directions:

Combine coffee, water, and brown sugar in a large skillet. Add pears. Bring liquid to a boil, then lower heat and simmer 8 minutes. Carefully flip pears over using a rubber spatula and poach another 10 minutes or until pears are tender and liquid has formed a syrup. To serve, drizzle syrup over pears.

Makes 4 servings.

Enjoy!

Jamaica Blue Mountain® and 100% Kona: This Season’s Special Reserves

Calling all coffee connoisseurs (and the friends who buy them gifts). We are pleased to announce the arrival of two highly prized Special Reserve coffees from Green Mountain Coffee®: Jamaica Blue Mountain® and 100% Kona. This isn’t something for just the French Press folks, these limited edition coffees are available in K-Cup® packs as well as bags. Both package options come with an informational brochure and are specially designed to make an elegant gift presentation.

Here’s a taste of each unique variety.

Jamaica Blue Mountain® is a coffee that is world-renowned for its exceptional flavor. So much so, that coffee experts ask for it by name. It is a complex coffee that presents a cup of well-rounded contrasts. You’ll find rich notes of chocolate, cherry, and plum, while hints of melon, lemon, and lime also shine through. The body is heavy with a silky, smooth finish.

100% Kona is one of the world’s most prized, award-winning coffees. It is a cheerfully bright, but delicate coffee that expresses dry, Chardonnay-like notes while presenting refreshing hints of tropical fruit, tart green apple, and dried citrus. It’s incomparable aroma is pleasantly floral with an almond sweetness.

These coffees, as with all Green Mountain Coffee® Special Reserves, are nurtured on the small farms we encounter during journeys to familiar origins and emerging coffee regions. They are carefully sourced and expertly roasted to bring out the best in every bean.

They’re also limited in supply, so don’t wait too long to order them!

Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie

Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie

If you ski, you might get the double meaning behind Green Mountain Coffee® Double Black Diamond coffee. You see, ski trails come with a rating system made up of colors and shapes so that you can pick a trail suited to your abilities. Double black diamond? Expert only, sir and madame.

A coffee named after that sort of exhilarating ride down a ski slope? You can bet it's got some danger behind its name. The Double Black Diamond Extra Bold coffee, I have to admit, is one step too dark for this recipe developer to drink on a random Tuesday. (I'm much more a Fair Trade Pumpkin Spice girl.) But that's okay, because it makes one heck of a dessert.

I don't know about you, but I'll take my caffeine any way I can get it. Pairing it with chocolate? I'm in. Pairing it with chocolate pudding? Doubly so.

You might imagine that as a recipe developer, there are quite a few leftovers around these parts. And that maybe we try to gift them to people as often as we can. All of that is true. Then there's Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie.

Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie

I tried to get my husband to take it to work. Begged even, knowing if it stayed here, we'd eat the whole thing between the two of us. He refused. Because he wanted to eat the whole thing between the two of us. It's that good.

Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie is one of the easiest desserts I've ever put together. It's a no-bake pie, which makes it especially great for the upcoming holiday season. A fantastic dessert that doesn't take up room in the oven, leaving plenty of room for your roast beef, roasting vegetables, and every other bit of the savory part of your meal.

I guarantee, when you present this pie to your guests at the end of a filling holiday meal, there may be some initial groans of fullness. Just one bite though, and they'll be wolfing it down.

Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie

Double Black Diamond Pudding Pie

makes one 9" pie

Ingredients

  • 1 3.8 oz box Devil's Food Instant Pudding mix
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups Green Mountain Coffee Double Black Diamond Extra Bold, cold and divided
  • 22 Newman's Own Creme Filled Chocolate Newman-O's Cookies
  • 22 Newman's Own Chocolate Creme Filled Chocolate Newman-O's Cookies
  • 1 8 oz tub frozen whipped topping, thawed or 2 cups heavy cream, whipped until fluffy with 3 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • cocoa powder for garnish (Optional)

Directions

  1. Brew a 12 oz cup of Double Black Diamond Extra Bold coffee and refrigerate until cold.
  2. When the coffee is sufficiently cooled, make the pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together pudding mix, heavy cream and 8 oz (1 cup) cold coffee, leaving 1/2 cup coffee to the side.
  3. Whisk together until pudding solidifies, about 5 minutes, then refrigerate while you assemble the other ingredients.
  4. Line a 9" pie plate with 22 cookies. I used all vanilla cream filled on one layer and chocolate cream filled on another, but you are welcome to alternate if you wish.
  5. When the first layer of cookies is in the bottom of the pie plate, spoon a bit of cooled coffee over each one, taking care not to use all the coffee, as you will need it for the second layer of cookies too.
  6. Layer half of the pudding on top of the cookies.
  7. Place a second layer of 22 cookies on top of the pudding layer, then spoon coffee over each of these.
  8. Layer the rest of the pudding on top of these cookies, then place in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes, covered with plastic wrap.
  9. When ready to serve, you can top with either frozen whipped topping that has been thawed, or homemade whipped cream. However, if you're using whipped cream, you must make sure the pie is going to be eaten the day you top it. If using whipped topping, the pie will last several days in the refrigerator, covered, and can be eaten over those days.
  10. Layer whipped cream or whipped topping over the pudding, then sprinkle with milk and semisweet chocolate chips (or stick to just one kind if that's all you have on hand), and garnish with cocoa powder.
  11. Serve immediately, or, if using whipped topping, you can make the pie at least a day in advance. The pie will only get better as it sits.

Make sure you visit Bluebonnets & Brownies for a chance to win some Double Black Diamond Extra Bold Coffee for yourself!

Green Mountain Coffee Is a Little Bit Country in Vegas

Our Google Plus Hangout

In April, the Green Mountain Coffee® brand worked with the Dial Global radio network to sponsor two days of remote radio broadcasts from the MGM Grand - the Las Vegas venue hosting the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards. Nearly 50 radio stations were in attendance, providing Country music royalty like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift and many more, with easy access to eager listeners tuning in from all over the nation.

Besides providing branded reusable shopping bags filled with great Green Mountain Coffee® thermoses and bags of Vermont Country Blend (get it?) for all the artists and VIPs, a Green Mountain Coffee® sampling team was on hand providing everyone with a nice selection of fresh K-Cup® packs from our array of Keurig® Platinum brewers. Event favorites were Dark Magic and Caramel Vanilla Cream.

And as many of us can attest, there’s something about photo booths that always brings out the silliness in people, so besides delicious coffee and fun gifts, we also brought our 9-foot tall coffee cup-shaped photo booth. The “My Coffee Moment” cup looked resplendent inside and out, wrapped with new Brew A Better Day imagery, and staffers and celebrities alike had a blast stepping into the giant cup and leaving with a silly souvenir photo.

As the sponsor representative on site, I was honored (and delighted) to be a part of the interview cycles, and over the course of what felt like a crazy two hours, I did live interviews with over two-dozen national Country stations. I used the opportunity to discuss the great connection between Country music fans and the Green Mountain brand – points of similarity like our devotion to authenticity and the promotion small-scale farmers and sustainable supply chains.

As exciting as the interviews were, a personal highlight of the event was teaming up with my friend Cadillac Jack, a Las Vegas radio personality from KCYE 102.7 FM, to host a live Google+ Hangout on the internet. While Cadillac and I talked about Fair Trade coffee – and music – with three Green Mountain Coffee® super fans, some very special guests like Gary Allen, Billy Currington, Thompson Square, and the aforementioned Ms. Underwood, stopped by our show and chatted with our online guests. These types of things are probably old hat for industry insiders like Cadillac Jack, but it was a real treat for me, and I know our online guests enjoyed it as well. It’s not every day you get to call your kids and say, “You’re never going to believe who I was just talking to!”

**And of course, note that none of the people above are actually endorsing us - they just stopped by for some coffee.

Don’t Let Them Drive You Crazy: Tips to Ensure a Great Road Trip

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a week-long wanderer, chances are you’ll be spending some time in the car this summer.  If you’re a solo traveler, able to take pit-stops and sightseeing breaks whenever you please, you can probably stop reading here. If not, you might want to put some thought into keeping your traveling companions happy while you’re all cozied up for six-hour stretches in 100 cubic feet of (hopefully) climate-controlled space.

First, the kids. Back in my day, my sisters and I occupied ourselves with 100 Bottles of…er…Pop on the Wall, the License Plate Game and if we were lucky, Mad Libs. We were bored and fought like crazy all the way from New Jersey to North Carolina. Nowadays, there are all kinds of ways kids can keep entertained, but variety is really what will save you from the dreaded “Are we there yet?” For sure, load up on the electronic options. Videos and audio books are great, so is allowing everyone to make a personal music playlist – and take 5-song rotations to ensure fairness. But also be prepared with sing-alongs, scavenger hunts, and prompted conversations (“Would you rather be able to fly or be invisible?”). Also, consider making a pre-travel trip to the dollar store to put together a grab-bag of new stuff that gets strategically doled out during the ride.

Traveling with kids or not, probably the most essential thing to be prepared with is snacks. Remember, salty snacks lead to thirst lead to drinking lead to rest areas. Think grapes over pretzels, trail mix over cold cuts. That said, it’s still important to stay hydrated. Travel cups and tumblers allow you to hit the road with a beverage at the ready. Your Keurig® brewer makes it easy to please everyone: coffee for the pilot, iced tea for the navigator, lemonade or fruit brews for the back-seat drivers. Sometimes though, nothing beats a stop to refuel both your vehicle and passengers, and a little leg-stretching can be a sanity-saver. There are some good apps out there that let you know what amenities are available at upcoming exits.

Finally, keep in mind that the greatest challenge of a road trip is also one of its gifts: extended time together. In today’s reality of jam-packed schedules and the often-antisocial world of social media, an extended car-ride is a chance to reconnect and simply enjoy each other’s company. And looking back years from now, it’s quite possible that the most memorable part of your trip will be the journey.

We’re sure there are tons of great road trip tips out there. What are some of yours?

Present Tense – The Grad Gift

Keurig MINI Wall from Keurig's 20th Anniversary Event

I generally pride myself on being a good gift-giver, preferring to spend a little time thinking about what the recipient would actually use and appreciate before I make a trip to the store, virtual or otherwise. And – with the exception of gifts for my mother-in-law – I often seem to hit well on the mark.

So I was surprised a few weeks ago when I found myself fumbling for a graduation gift idea for my nephew. After all, there is no shortage of products aimed at males 18-25.

I started with the lofty idea of getting him a perspective-altering book that would tap into the frenetic enthusiasm of a college-bound kid on the cusp of becoming an adult. But that gift had “English major Aunt” written all over it, and I wasn’t sure he’d be able suppress a little eye-rolling.

I started looking into techy gifts, but that left me feeling old and out of touch (for a little perspective, I mortifyingly keep referring to my iPod as my Walkman). And gift cards, while practical, just seemed, well…a bit lame.

I needed help. Yahoo had the answer. And it was right under my nose, quite literally, as I sipped my morning coffee. In Yahoo’s Market Wired segment, I came across a news item: “Graduation Gifts: Top Picks for the Class of 2013.” There it was coming in at #3, the Keurig® Mini Plus Brewing System.

I’m sure dorms are no bigger today than the broom closets we had when I was in school, so a compact brewer would be the perfect crowning accessory to a stack of milk crates. And, knowing my nephew, all-nighters are likely to be the norm, so the ability to make a cup of coffee in less than two minutes, or  <marketing alert> hot cocoa, hot tea, and iced beverages like Snapple® iced teas, lemonade, and other fruit brews, seemed like a gift that got check marks in both the form and function columns. Throw in a few sampler packs and I may be in contention for favorite aunt status.

Take that Auntie Lois.

The point is, single-serve packs are a really convenient way to enjoy a great cup of coffee any time of day. Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day isn’t too far away, so make sure it’s time to make sure you get her the perfect gift. Struggling for some ideas? We wanted to make things easier for you this year with a gift guide of things to buy mom on her special day to go with that Keurig® brewer you got her last year.

1. When you were younger, you probably got one of those “#1 MOM” coffee mugs. You can still let your mom know she is #1 with a beautiful mug like, the Guatemalan Teal Mug. A lot of care went into making these hand painted Guatemalan mugs, and she'll know it, too.

2. You can’t always be there for her to help tidy up the house, but the Black and Silver K-Cup® Pack Storage Tower  will help her organizing the kitchen and keep things neat.

3. To make her day extra special, buy her some of her favorite Keurig® brewed beverages, like some Café Escapes® if your mom needs some “me time”, or maybe some Barista Prima® coffee for mothers who want to transport themselves to a European coffee house for the afternoon!

We have a lot more ideas on our website, in case your mom is more of a maple syrup or biscotti lover. No matter what you end up getting mom for Mother’s Day, make sure you give her all of the love and appreciation she deserves.

Last Minute Holiday Tips from Our K-Cup Ambassadors

With only a few days until Christmas, how’s the last minute planning and gift shopping going?  Are all the gifts wrapped and under the tree, or are you a bit frazzled and still trying to pull together menus, not to mention still struggling to figure out what to get that mother-in-law of yours? (Trust me: We're all there!)

Homemade salsa from Amber of Bluebonnets & Brownies

To help out, we tapped into some of our K-Cup® Ambassadors to provide a few tips to help you check off some of those final tasks.

  • Take a break.  Kelby of Type-A Parent says, “It is so easy to get caught up in your endless to-do list for the holidays (and unfortunately, holidays are on the calendar and come with a definite deadline). Take a break to do something holiday-related just for the sheer fun of it. Almost every town or city has some sort of holiday displays, events, festivals or even just holiday lights driving through neighborhoods. Take one day to just enjoy the holidays. Believe me, all the other stuff can wait one day (unless, perhaps, you are reading this on Christmas Eve).
  • Do-ahead appetizers.  When planning appetizers, Amber of Bluebonnets & Brownies says to always include a few dips that can be made ahead of time, and quickly too, like this homemade salsa recipe. Throw some tortilla chips in a bowl, and you're ready to go. It's my mother's recipe, and I serve it at every party we host, no matter the time of year. It's always a hit, and it comes together in the food processor in about 3 minutes flat. Add to that, it can be made up to 3 days ahead of time, and the flavors only get better the longer it sits."
  • Hostess Gifts.  Julie from The Little Kitchen loves to give little gift baskets with coffee and cookies in them - or even a cute coffee mug with a little baggie with a sampling of your favorite K-Cup® packs and some homemade biscotti or cookies.
  • Take a “Me Moment”.  Kristen of Dine & Dish carves out a bit of “me” time each day. “I do that by sitting down to a cup of coffee. There is a reason coffee is hot… it’s meant to be sipped and savored, not rushed.  I use that 15 minutes in my day to get a grip on the day and it truly does work.”

An Ode To Cyber Monday

We here at Green Mountain Coffee® truly enjoy this time of year. The Monday following Black Friday, or Cyber Monday as it is commonly known is a time when shopping consists of sitting in a comfortable chair and surfing the web for all of your holiday gift giving needs. I have written a few short verses on my ideal Cyber Monday. Do enjoy and happy shopping!

Ode To Cyber Monday

When it comes to holiday gifts there are two schools of thought,

Some folks shop every storefront, while I do not.

The thought of me and my favorite cup sitting by the fire,

While surfing the web and fulfilling my commercial desires.

It gives me respite from holiday shopping woes,

The amount of time it saves me, nobody knows.

Once everything is ordered and my holiday list is complete,

I finish my cup of coffee and nod off into a restfull sleep.

A Father's Day To Remember

I’m often overwhelmed with the plethora of shiny, and normally quite costly, tools and other manly pieces of machinery that are advertised as being the perfect gift for your dad on father’s day, so I lean towards a few more unconventional ideas. Showing dad you care is a lot easier than you may think and it doesn’t have to involve spending a lot of money, just some time out of your day. For instance preparing your father’s coffee just the way he likes it and then helping him take care of those little projects he never has time to get to around the house would say a lot.

This requires knowing just what he likes, the subtleties of his favorite style -- could be a dark or light roast, creamy or black, sweet or bitter, frothy or iced. It can be a difficult thing to get right, but if you can pull that off, delivered to him in his favorite mug without him saying so much as a word, he’ll be quite pleasantly surprised. And even more so when you suggest tackling the unfinished stone wall together that your mother requested around the garden ages ago. Though that only starts after you’ve all enjoyed the breakfast of blueberry pancakes and bacon you knew he’d love, of course.

It’s hard to show just how much you care and the effort you’re willing to put forth on their behalf by simply buying them something, even if it is something that you know they’ll love. As the people that have raised and cared for us all our lives our parents deserve to understand just how much we appreciate everything they’ve done. Treat your father better this year than ever before, it can never be too much. And it all starts by waking up to the smell of coffee and bacon wafting into their room.

If you need help making that special cup of coffee we’ve enlisted some help for you in our Deal of the Week.

And here’s a sampling of some of the good recipes from our blog that you could treat them to:

Mothers Day is a Special Day!

Mother’s Day is the perfect day to recognize your mom for all of her kindness. It is also the perfect day to recognize other moms like your wife, sister, grandmother, or even a favorite aunt. The day gives us all time to reflect on all of the amazing things these important women have done for us and their children.

But what to get someone who’s done so much?  I find it hard to shop for my mom and I am always looking for perfect gift ideas. I am also always on the look-out for the perfect Mother’s Day gift for my wife. I was recently browsing GreenMountainCoffee.com for ideas and had a few things that caught my eye.

For my own mother, who has always liked and collected, on a small scale, hand-made pottery, there is a good selection of fun ceramic mugs and a few choice hand-thrown artisan-crafted pieces. She is a fan of the Native American style glazes and when I saw the Mocha Red River Mug, I immediately thought of her. I think it is the perfect addition to her eclectic pottery collection.  I was also partially persuaded to purchase this for my mother based on the amount of positive reviews it’s received.

Chocolate is always a good way to go for the women in my life. A chocolate cake made from the Molten Chocolate cake mix may be just the right way to say, “Thank you” to my Wife Natasha.

While looking around on GreenMountainCoffee.com, I noticed there is currently a bundled offer -- buy a Keurig Platinum brewer and get free K-Cup packs plus a Brew Over Ice tumbler - that is hard to refuse. I can easily see my mother, wife or sister using this every day and smiling each time she brews.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Looking for Keurig Coupons or K-Cup Coupons?

I often get asked by my family and friends, “Where can I get K-Cup® coupons?” or “How can I save money on my K-Cup® packs?” I drink a lot of coffee, so I found out awhile back that one of the best ways to save on K-Cup® packs is through our Café Express® Savings Club.  As a club member, every time you shop at Green Mountain Coffee® you’ll get great savings (15% off!)on Keurig® K-Cup® and Vue™ packs, bagged coffee, gifts, coffee makers & coffee accessories.

I shared this with the family and they were thrilled, especially Uncle Morty!  I’ll admit: To stop the “Where can I get K-Cup® coupons,” question, I’ve given Café Express® Savings Club memberships to my family and friends during the holidays.  It’s a special way to treat every coffee lover on my list throughout the year (and get major brownie points).

If you just want to purchase a few K-Cup® packs and save money with a coffee coupon, take a look at the Coffee Coupon Page or the Deal of the Week Page.  There are new deals every week, so check back often!

Grand Reopening of the Visitor Center and Cafe!

This past Saturday we held the grand reopening of the Green Mountain Coffee® Visitors Center and Café - and what a great success it was!  All day long folks stopped by to check things out, see our revitalized space, and warm up (it was only 25-degrees out) with a steaming cup of coffee. Some lucky customers even walked away with great prizes including gift bags full of Green Mountain Coffee goodies (and even a Keurig® brewer or two).

We have to say: The Café staff did a spectacular job reopening the doors. Their friendly greetings and glowing faces really added to the enjoyment of the day. To say the least, we are so happy to see them back in action – particularly when they walked around with a selection of tasty treats was provided by Joan Grenier of Grenier’s Home Bakery.  Yum!

What’s a celebration without music?  Harwood Unions High School’s own a capella group, I Cantori, stopped by and captivated listeners with a selection of holiday favorites on the front porch. True professionals, the group sounded perfect - even in chilly temperatures!

Inspired by the occasion (and by the joyous music), Megan Smith, Vermont’s Commissioner of Tourism & Marketing, spoke about Waterbury and the importance of small towns in Vermont. Revitalizing Waterbury presented Ernie Pomerleau with a community services award for his work in Waterbury – thanks, Ernie!  Missy Gorham, the Café’s Manager, also got the chance to speak, sharing how very happy she is to be back in business after three months of hard work to get everything up and running again. Finally, the group raised their mugs in a toast to the Café staff, commemorating the reopening, the Visitor Center’s 5th year in business and Revitalizing Waterbury’s 20th year.

We are so fortunate to be part of a community that looks out for each other and rally when times get tough. We hope that the Café will continue to embody a sense of community spirit and that locals and visitors alike will come see us to enjoy a warm cup of coffee and the company of family and friends.

Thanks to all those who joined us on Saturday!  We hope to see you again soon. And for those of you who didn’t have the chance, come visit us any day of the week between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. You’ll be glad you did.

That is less likely to happen with our unique selection of coffee mugs, rugged gear and high-tech single-cup coffee makers. If he’s particularly adventurous, our Coffee Tours are a great way to discover a new favorite coffee, and make a wonderful gift for coffee lovers who like to try new things. If your young man is still in college, the popular Keurig® Mini Plus has free shipping and is a must for all-night study sessions and early-morning classes.

For Her:

Whether she’s your mom or daughter, sweetheart or friend, treat her to something special from our collection of Gift ideas for Her. Chocolate is always a hit, and several of our offerings will fit easily into her holiday stocking. Encourage her to take a moment for herself with a handcrafted mug, or give her a few extra minutes with the convenience of a Cuisinart® Keurig® Single Cup Coffee Maker. If she likes to entertain, make it easy with our Keurig® K-Cup Carousel or Hot Cocoa K-Cup® Pack Gift.

For the Office:

A gift from our office collection is a perfect way to say “thank you” to everyone who has shared in your business success throughout the year. Chocolate dipped shortbread and biscotti make coffee breaks even sweeter! Thermal mugs keep desk-top coffee warm all morning long. Of course, the best gifts are large enough to share with everyone in the office, so choose from our wide assortment of gift baskets with plenty to go around.

For Everyone:

If time is what you want to give, consider a membership to our Café EXPRESS Coffee Club. Create an account and we’ll send bagged coffee or K-Cup® packs automatically to the address of your choice. They’ll never run out again! Treat your loved one to a coffee and beverage service with the gift of club membership. Send four or more boxes of K-Cup® packs and the shipping will be FREE.

With these ideas by your side, we hope your holiday shopping will be easy as pie!

Dry Socks, Full Belly, Fresh Coffee

It is difficult for those of us who have not served to understand what that act means. The Vincent Jones - 1945 Camp Lucky Strike Franceexperience is non-transferrable – something we can read about, hear stories, watch the news on, but only those who have been there can know.

Until recently, after his passing, I did not know how much being a Veteran meant to my 91-year-old Great Uncle Vinnie. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry 89th Division under General Patton. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was also part of the first wave of infantry men to liberate Dauchen, the first concentration camp to be entered by the Allied Forces. Until days before his passing, he served as Secretary and Treasurer of his local American Legion.

He was a jovial man – always laughing, dancing and loving life. If you really knew him though you knew he carried the memories of his service with him always – though he didn’t show the shock and trauma he had experienced outwardly. He appreciated the comforts of home – dry socks, a full belly, and a hot cup of coffee (he never refused a meal, even if he had just eaten, or a cup of freshly brewed coffee).

Knowing this about him and his time in the service, I’m proud to know our coffee and brewers areTroops at Holy Joe's Green Mountain Coffee Station providing that comfort to many of our service women and men.

While abroad, soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan can visit one of Holy Joe’s Cafes to sip fresh Green Mountain Coffee and relax with their fellow servicemen. So far, we’ve sent over 13,500 lbs of bagged coffee and over 9 million K-Cup Portion Packs.

And at their deployment and arrival home we work with Pease Greeters at the PortsmouthPease Greeters at Troop Deployment 10-26-11International Airport at Pease, NH to provide a warm farewell and welcome home. We provide coffee (around 1,000 cups per month!) and Keurig Single-Cup Brewers so that great coffee, freshly brewed is available to the troops as they pass through the airport. Food, gifts and ceremony are all part of the Pease Greeters send-offs and welcome-backs.

For those of you who have served, we thank you for your sacrifice both during and after your service. We wish all of you the comforts of home on this Veteran’s Day – warm socks, a full belly and certainly great coffee!

Pink On Purpose

We’ve been talking a lot about October being Fair Trade Month. It also happens to be National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. Wholesale and our Business Coffee Express service are proud to support the “Pink on Purpose” campaign of the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR).

The AICR was founded more than 25 years ago on a simple but radical idea: everyday choices can reduce our chances of getting cancer. They were the first organization to focus research on the link between diet and cancer, and to translate the results into practical information for the public.

AICR’s Pink on Purpose Campaign encourages workplaces to “get pink”: Employees dress in pink, trick out the office in pink decorations, and raise funds for breast cancer research. Once you sign up to host Pink on Purpose, you'll receive an event toolkit that contains pink decorations, promotional materials and breast cancer materials, as well as planning tools and fun ideas.

As prizes for the offices that raise the most money, our Digital team is  is donating Keurig® brewers, K-Cup®portion packs, and coffee gift baskets.

So, wherever you work, please consider getting Pink on Purpose this month. With your help, AICR can have a greater impact on emerging breast cancer research, treatment interventions and prevention programs in labs, clinics, and communities across the country.

Pink on Purpose > Get started
